Hit US TV show ‘The Glades’ launched in UK at Barbican

A new hit US television show has been launched in the UK with a murder mystery night at the Barbican.

The Glades will air in the UK on UKTV’s crime drama channel Alibi. The murder mystery night at the Barbican was presented as a golf club awards dinner and 24 guests, made up of journalists from consumer publications, worked in teams to battle it out to discover who the murderer was. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on arrival followed by a three course dinner, provided by Barbican’s in-house caterer, Searcy’s.

The Barbican was chosen as the venue for the launch party because its Conservatory provided a perfect backdrop for the event as it fit perfectly with the Florida theme of The Glades, where the show is set. Created by Clifton Campbell, The Glades follows former Chicago homicide detective Jim Longworth (Matt Passmore) who moves to a small Florida town and joins the state police where sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. But Longworth soon finds out the town isn’t quite as idyllic as he originally thought – murder and mayhem keep piling up just as much as any big city.

Barbican’s Conservatory is a hidden tropical oasis in the heart of London, and is the second largest conservatory in the city. It is home to finches, quails, exotic fish and more than 2,000 species of tropical plants and trees. Protected by its glass roof, the spectacular space can accommodate up to 100 delegates for a standing buffet or 150 guests for a drinks reception while the Conservatory Terrace can accommodate 200 guests for private dining.

Gemma Pinkney, Publicist (Entertainment) from UKTV comments: “Barbican’s Conservatory provided the right atmosphere for the launch event of The Glades. We were delighted with how the event went and the standard of service we received from all the staff at the Barbican.”

Anthony Hyde, general manager, Barbican Business Events, comments: “The Barbican provides an ideal backdrop for the type of event organised by UKTV for the launch of its new TV show. As Europe’s largest combined arts and conference centre we are able to use our links with the arts to create some of the most inspiring and exciting events. Clients using the Barbican can benefit from our integrated approach to delivering events which offer the highest level of creativity within the corporate environment.”

Season 1 of The Glades will air on Alibi (Sky 130 and Virgin 132) from September 11 at 9pm.
