We get to know more about Soaring Worldwide’s senior account manager Sarah Carless in the latest of our ‘Meet the Team’ blogs.
“It would be fair to say I do everything and anything in my role as Senior Account Manager, but that’s something I really love about the job – no two days are the same. One day I can be writing press releases, blogs or comment pieces and the next I can be strategic planning or putting together content for newsletters and even creating a daily newspaper.
“Having previously worked for a marketing agency in the construction sector, Soaring Worldwide’s presence in the events industry was of great appeal when I took the job – it’s always an area I’ve had a strong interest in. One of the reasons I enjoy my job so much is the people we work with. We have some of the best clients, and because we operate in such a creative and vibrant industry it’s fun to work with them to come up with new and interesting ideas and then see them through. There’s still one or two ideas we’re trying to convince clients to take up and I’m sure we’ll succeed one day. Working at Soaring Worldwide has also given me plenty of opportunities to learn. Since becoming a part of the team I’ve been able to put into practice what our clients do on a day to day basis – the organisation of successful events – through the activities I’m involved in outside of work.
“One of my strengths is I know what journalists are looking for, having been a journalist and gained my degree in journalism before switching to a career in marketing. It helps me see things from a different perspective and find different angles that clients hadn’t thought of for stories. Either that or I’m just naturally nosey and like to root out a good story.
“In marketing you learn something new every day as the tools we use to deliver campaigns are constantly changing. I recently completed my ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management. It has been hard work but gave me a real insight into how to get the best out of people which hopefully benefits everybody in the company, and our clients too.
“Working at Soaring Worldwide has given me the opportunity to travel around the world, and I’ve been to some amazing places. It’s a standing joke amongst my friends that it doesn’t look like I do any work when I post pictures of the places I have been.
“Away from the office I spend most of my time doing some sort of activity with my horse Bailey. The summer months are great because I can leave work and blow away the cobwebs out hacking after a long day sat at my desk. We compete in dressage, show jumping and eventing, and he’s such a character that he even has his own Twitter account and blog on which we share his escapades. I’m also well known for my love of fizz and shoes – the last count was 60 plus pairs and counting. So it’s no surprise that my perfect day would be spent in Kurt Geiger with an endless amount I could spend on shoes, all done with a glass of Champagne in my hand.”
