Church House Conference Centre has achieved accreditation as a Living Wage employer.
Church House first committed to providing its employees and contracted staff with better pay conditions when it became a London Living Wage employer in 2014, but it has now taken this one step forward through formal accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation.
The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at the Westminster venue, regardless of whether they are permanent employees or third-party contractors and suppliers, receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.15 – significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £6.50.
Robin Parker, General Manager at Church House Conference Centre, commented: “We are a venue that prides itself on the quality of service we provide – it is something which helps us win much of our repeat business. And to continue to achieve high standards we need to attract the best staff in the industry, which is why we are committed to being an employer which pays a fair wage. Being an accredited Living Wage employer is the right choice for us and will put us in a strong position when we and our contractors recruit new talent to strengthen our teams.”
The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, and is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK. Employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis.
Living Wage Foundation Director Rhys Moore said: “We are delighted to welcome Church House to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer. The best employers are voluntarily signing up to pay the Living Wage now. The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay. We have accredited over 1,500 leading employers, including Church House, ranging from independent printers, bookshops and breweries, to well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE. These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business. Customers expect better than that.”
Situated in the heart of Westminster Church House Conference Centre is one of London’s most versatile event venues. The AIM Gold accredited venue offers 19 flexible event spaces, which accommodate between 2 and 664 guests, and host a wide variety of events including meetings, conferences, awards ceremonies, gala dinners and receptions.
