The Barbican is set for another year of success with £1 million worth of event enquiries received each week, every week for the first few weeks of 2017. This success sees the flagship City of London arts and conference venue maintain its 2016 figures.
During 2016, £2.2million was invested into the facilities at the Barbican to strengthen its position as Europe’s largest combined conference and arts venue. A total of £644,000 alone has been spent on redesigning and refurbishing the Frobisher Suite and Level 4 of the venue.
Jackie Boughton, Head of Business Events at the Barbican, said; “This significant investment in the facilities at the Barbican has increased the number of event enquiries over the last 6 months, especially in the international market.” Jackie went on to say; “Despite the uncertainty of the current climate, the level of enquiries that we have had thus far in 2017, promises another busy and exciting year ahead. Whilst we appreciate that enquiries don’t always mean confirmed business, we are cautiously optimistic about the coming year, but and are conscious that we need to continue to be proactive in order to maintain market share.”
Unlike many other venues, Barbican was specifically built with the dual purpose of holding conferences and arts events presenting a diverse range of art, music, theatre, dance, film and creative learning.
The Barbican cemented its position amongst the most elite venues in the country through the achievement of AIM Gold in 2014 and again in 2016 – a mark of excellence demonstrating the important traits of compliancy, competency and capability. The accreditation consists of a strict auditing process of rigorous tests, which examine all elements of the business, including planning, customer environment and levels of service.
