The Barbican, one of the world’s leading international arts and conference venues hosting a diverse range of art, music, theatre, dance, film and creative learning events, has appointed Jonathon Poyner to manage Operations and Buildings. Jonathon will be responsible for operations at both the Barbican and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, including the School’s state-of-the art performance and teaching space, Milton Court.
Jonathon will focus on engineering, operations, capital projects and facilities management across nine buildings in the heart of the City of London. Supported by an excellent team of experienced staff, front and back of house, Jonathon will deliver a full, daily service ensuring that the buildings meet the ever-changing needs of a diverse range of customers.
Having worked in the arts and culture, sports and leisure/tourism, retail, manufacturing, and facilities management service sectors, Jonathon brings broad experience and an adaptable leadership and management style.
Jonathon said; “The difference between a world-class venue and a world-class experience is people. We are blessed to work in some of the world’s most iconic buildings and deliver services that support not only the Barbican’s vision of Arts without Boundaries, but also the Guildhall School in maintaining its world-leading position as a centre for learning. I believe in the value of culture in nation building, and this role offers me the opportunity to work with my colleagues to ensure that the Barbican and Guildhall School maintain and develop their brands internationally. It is a privilege to work for the City of London whose dynamic strategies for supporting culture today, and into the future, will ensure that London remains centre stage for all our audiences for many years to come.”
The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of the world’s leading conservatoires and drama schools, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals. Milton Court, a £90million development for the Guildhall School, boasts a capacity of 608, world-class acoustic design and state-of-the-art technical capabilities. The venue, located in the City of London, is perfect for AGMs, conferences or product launches.
The Barbican cemented its position amongst the most elite venues in the country through the achievement of AIM Gold in 2014 and again in 2016 – a mark of excellence demonstrating the important traits of compliancy, competency and capability. The accreditation consists of a strict auditing process of rigorous tests, which examine all elements of the business, including planning, customer environment and levels of service.
