With part of the Rugby World Cup 2015 having been hosted in Cardiff, South Wales has enjoyed an Indian summer for hospitality and events.
With a broad range of visitors coming from all over the world to attend matches, South East Wales was been keen to establish itself as an industry-leading destination. Record attendances at sporting events and fully booked accommodation gave the regional economy a strong boost and shown, that despite the economic downturn, big events such as the World Cup can bring big business to town.
Just one of the venues to benefit from the influx of visits is the Holiday Inn, Newport. Dermot Keegan, General Manager, comments: “Commercially it has helped enormously. We’ve seen occupancy rates on quiet nights nearly treble for this time of year, whilst on peak nights demand has ensured that we are able to increase rates whilst providing value for money.
“Culturally it’s exposed our hotel to a much wider market. Our client mix is normally 90% UK and Ireland whereas we’ve experienced a noticeable increase in Antipodean, South/ North American and French visitors who are here to enjoy themselves. This has given us the opportunity to showcase our hospitality to a wider audience and this has been reflected in the feedback that we’ve received from our guests during the World Cup period.”
Award winning restaurants, incredible landmarks and breathtaking scenery make South East Wales a fantastic destination for any sporting event, conference or event.
